Our Zone is the Best Ever!

Emailed Sept. 22, 2011 Hey everyone! I find that once again, I have the opportunity to write all of you, and I love it! I have to say that this experience is really crazy, because it feels like I just wrote all of you yesterday. Well, I'm really greatful that I get to hear from all of you, and am glad that you share your stories with me. It's good to know what's going on in life, and hear how each of you are doing. One reason I am really thankful to hear from my family is because not all missionaries do. One of which that is in my prayers is Elder Reed. He hasn't heard from his family for 2 weeks by either e-mail or dearelder.com. The reason for my concern being that there is a wildfire in Texas right now that is really close to Elder Reed's house. I'm sure his family is okay, but I am concerned for his home and belongings. I just hope that he hears from them soon. Other than the concern for Elder Reed, things have been going well here. Our Zone is the best ever! I'm trying to take pictures of all of the great missionaries, and I need to write about them in my Journal, because I need to keep track of these great Elders. By the way, I won't be able to send pictures for a while. The Photo Developing Machine has been malfunctioning, and it's out of order for the time being. But I will try to get pictures to all of you as soon as possible. Well, I also found out that my time to write hand-written letters is more limited than I thought. I can only write hand-written letters during certain times on my P-Day. So I don't know how much I will be able to write. I have good news though! My very angry/demanding Facebook post was a success. This Monday, I received "Dear Elders" from John, Chris A, and Rachel. Then on Tuesday, I received a "Dear Elder" from Uncle Paul Petersen, and a hand-written letter from Grandma. I was suprised to say the least! My first reaction was "¿Carta...para yo?" (Mail...for me?). It was great to hear from all of them, though I have to say that John's was predictably short. It is fun though. All of the Elders here do a game for their received mail, that is based off of the Video Game "Halo". It was Elder ... idea. It's based off of the killing sprees and rewards in Halo. So in Halo if you kill 2 people in a row, or with the same shot, it is a "Double Kill". Here in the MTC, if you get 2 letters, it's a "Double Mail". So that means that on Monday, I got a "Triple Mail", and on Tuesday I got a "Double Mail". Yeah...we're all geeks.... Anyway, to answer some questions: Yes, I am very Happy here at the MTC. It's a great place to be. We even got to hear from Elder Russel M. Nelson this last Tuesday at the Devotional. He's a VERY funny apostle! It was a great devotional. Once again, I will have to tell you about it, and share my notes with you when I get home. Let's see....well the Spanish is going well. I'm kinda near the bottom of my District when it comes to speaking the language, but I'm pretty good at understanding it. So yeah, it's going okay. I have a few questions here about Karaoke in the Dorm rooms. Well, to say the least, the Elders in my room were singing Christmas music last night. It was fun, and we all realized that we don't know the lyrics to the Christmas Tree song... Switching Subjects, we found out last week that we are no longer required, as missionaries, to have a Visa to go to Panama. So all of us Elders weren't happy with that one bit, but I guess it means we won't have any trouble getting in to the country! Well, I'm sorry to cut it short, and I'm sorry if I didn't answer all of your questions, but I am out of time. Maybe I will be able to write you some hand-written letters later. Well, good luck with everything! I hate that you all have to move at once, and I wish I could help you all. Well, I love hearing from you all, and thanks Mom for the package with the nail clippers! Keep up the good work Chris! Be fun, and be safe all of you! I love you, and I look forward to hearing from you next week! Bye!

Learning at the MTC is Like Drinking From a Fire Hydrant . . .

Emailed Sept. 15, 2011

Hola mi familia!

Things here at the MTC are going quite nicely. I find that though we do a lot of study, that there is a great amount of fun to be had here. Though I must say that time flies like no other here at the MTC, but at the same time, the days feel long. There is a popular saying here, it goes: "Days seem like weeks, and weeks seem like days". They also say that sometimes learning here at the MTC is like drinking from a fire hydrant. Es Verdad! (it's true). We learn so much here at the MTC. It's freaking amazing! Plus.....wait for it...........this last Tuesday, we got to hear from M. Russel Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve! It....was....AWESOME!!! He told us many stories about when he was a missionary, and about how we should prepare ourselves. I will have to share my notes with you all when I get home, but it was amazing! I love how often we are able to feel the Spirit here at the MTC, and how powerful it is. It's truly a great feeling being surronded by fellow Missionaries. Plus, I know it's horrible of me, but the Hermana (Sister) Missionaries are also very great :) But let there be no worries, I am very concentrated on the work! Though, I guess I'll give you a little insight as to how me and my roomies work. We spend a lot of our free time messing around. We also have many code-words, and inside jokes, that make every day even better. So far, I would have to say that this place is like a Spiritual College Dorm. It's crazy how much fun we have. I know I'm going to get chewed out for this one, but every night here is Karaoke night. Everyone in our zone is always singing something as they walk around our dorm. That, and we have more fun than we should. There's probably a dozen different games that I have learned and played throughout my stay here. Plus, I have met a ton of amazing people. So yeah, I'm having a good time!

Well, it's good to hear from you all. I love to hear that things are going okay. It sounds like you are all keeping yourselves very busy.

Oh, before I forget. My P-Days are on Thursdays, and I will be e-mailing you all around 10:30, right after I finish my Temple Session. Mom, I hope that you continue to enjoy your classes. I know those are hard sometimes, but they are also very fulfilling. I have to say, I feel kind of bad that you had to mow the lawn. I would totally come and do it if I could :) Also, I'm not sure if you got it, but I sent you a handwritten letter this last week. Also, I'm sorry to everyone else that I haven't written a handwritten letter to you yet. I cannot find your addresses. I think I lost a few things when I got here. Like my nail clippers, and the store is out of them right now, so my nails are freakishly long, and it's driving me nuts! Dad, I hope work is still going well for you. I'm sure they've been keeping you busy. Also, sorry if I'm spending too much money. I find that there is always something I seem to need. Mik, keep having fun, and don't do anything I wouldn't do :) Chris, that goes for you too! Also, enjoy your mission! Well, I have no time left. I love you all, and will talk to you later!

MTC--A Spiritual College Dorm & Happy Birthday Christopher!

Emailed Sept. 8, 2011

Hello Family,

I'm sorry to do this again, but I decided to write you all a bulk-family e-mail this week. I just decided that only having 30 minutes doesn't give me near enough time to write you all personal letters. Well, this has been a good week so far. My companion, my roomie Elders, and I, have all been having a good time. I must say that I think the best way I can describe this experience is to say that the MTC is a spiritual college dorm. There is always something crazy going on around here! We have the best Zone that you could ask for. Every day is spiritual, and a party at the same time! Don't get me wrong though the work is HARD!!! Especially in Español. This week we had to teach "Victor" 3 times, and we can only teach him in Spanish. When it comes to teaching, I am so glad that we have companions as missionaries. Elder Magnusson is great at giving lessons! I, on the other hand, find myself struggling to think of sentances and words in Spanish. At times it is discouraging, but by the end of the lesson, we often find ourselves quite satisfied with our work. When it comes to Spanish, the only things I can do without saying "uh" or "um", is bear my testimony and pray. Though both of the two are often very, very brief, I find that it is an excellent way to bring the spirit to our lesson. So, the lessons are going well.

I guess that I should take some time and answer some questions, cause I have a lot of them from you. First of all, yes, the food here is very good (most of the time), BUT sometimes it doesn't agree with me to well in the end of the day. To answer Dad, "No" there is not a chicken nugget line :( and the reason I had a bill from the doctor, was because I needed my Typhoid Fever shot. Also, I have had a few other expenses such as supplies and note taking material. To answer Mom, my Facebook Username is: tpetersen5@yahoo.com and my Password is as written: Kanden125 . Also, thanks for managing my Facebook, and thanks for the cookies!!! :) They were mui bien! Uh, no name for the blog yet, and technically, I have no blog message either, so yeah... I will try to send pictures if I can, but I have no idea how I will send them yet. To answer Mik, ci, espanol es mui dificil! Pardon my Spanish, it is horrible at the moment :) Truthfully, I only understood parts of your e-mail, so sorry if I don't answer everything you asked me. It is good to know that you had fun at the concert! And to Chris: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRO!!!! I'm hope you are having, had, or will have, a happy birthday! Sorry that I can't send anything to you at the moment, but I just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you.

To you all: Thanks for the wonderful e-mails! I'm sorry my message is so short, and that I didn't have time to properly talk with all of you. I want you to know that I am always thinking of you, and that you are in my prayers. You don't have to worry about me here at the MTC. All is well. Also, I will try to hand-write you all if I can. As for you and my friends, I would suggest using dearelder.com if you want to send me a same day message. They just print out whatever you write, here at the MTC, and give it to us missionaries same day. Well, I have to go now. I love you all! Talk to you later!

Hey Family,

I hope things are going well for all of you. I decided to write this letter because I only have a couple of minutes left to write. But first, I have to apologise for my other emails. Sorry that they are kind of reproduced. I am very slow at writing messages, and I was running out of time, so I kinda made a template, and adjusted it for each of you. I plan on getting better at writing, and hope to tell you many of the great stories of my time here at the MTC. Well, I guess that I just wanted you all to know that you are in my prayers always, and I love you all very much. Though, I think of you all often, I find myself very busy and I don´t get much down time. Suprisingly enough, I have not been able to take time to draw a single picture in these four days! So yeah, as busy as things are, it is very good work! Well before I go, I wanted to tell you about something very, very cool. It is called ¨dearelder.com¨ It is same day letters that you write on their website, and those letters are delivered to us at the MTC and in our mission field. And it´s FREE!!! If you wouldn´t mind telling the extended family and friends about it, that would be nice! Maybe post it on my Facebook or something. Anyway, I love you all, and I look forward to hearing from you!

First Email to Mom

Emailed Sept. 3, 2011

Hey Mom,

First time emailing you! Whoot! Well, I just want you to know that everything is going alright for me here at the MTC.So far, it has been a great experience being here. We do a lot of studying and classes, so the days are VERY long, and it´s a lot of hard work. My Companion´s name is Elder Magnussen. We get along well, but it´s definately different getting used to having a companion with you 24 hours a day. It´s been great though, my room mates are Elder Rose, Elder Hummel, and of course, Elder Magnussen. So yeah, we all have a good time here. The MTC is a GREAT place. The spirit can be felt often as we study and teach. I just can´t believe that it is only our fourth day here, and we are all doing quite well at speaking Spanish. Yesterday, Elder Magnussen, and I, had to teach one of our teachers, who is currently acting like he is a 56 year old blind guy named Victor......in Spanish! Well, I really do have more stories for you. I´m kind of frustrated that we only get 30 mins to write each week, and I am very slow at writing emails, so I´m sorry that this message is so short. I did write you a letter, but you will probably get this before my letter gets to you. Well, I have to hurry and email the rest of the family and I only have 17 minutes to do so. I look forward to hearing from you. I love you very much! You are in my prayers always. Until next time.

Love, Trevor
